At Savannah Bee Company, honeybees are their passion!
Ted Dennard is the Founder, President and head beekeeper of Savannah Bee Company. Growing up in Coastal Georgia, Ted’s journey into the magical world of bees and honey was sparked by an elderly beekeeper, Roy Hightower, who believed in bee keeping as a way of life. 35 years later, Ted’s passion hasn’t waned. Ted backed into business in 1999 when his friend opened a store in Savannah and began selling his tupelo honey. Three years later, Savannah Bee Company was officially born. Today, Ted remains dedicated to sharing the world of bees with others and introducing new honeybee products to market.
Ted believes we should strive to live as bees live: symbiotically with nature and in a manner that contributes positively to the world around us.
Join Ted and his team at the Wilmington Island location for a Bee Garden Tour. Group tours of Bee Garden Enjoy a private educational tour of working bee hives and learn about the lives and benefits of our bee community to the entire ecosystem. The tour includes a close look at a cross section of an active hive, where guests can see the entire workings of the hive. Get outfitted with a bee net and get close up and personal with the hives if you wish. Learn about the Bee Apitherapy Hut, the only one in North America. Hives are located under the seating and the fumes given off when honey is created get trapped in the hut. It is a meditative experience and excellent for the skin and lungs. Reservations required. $8 for adults and $5 for children. This experience is available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Reservations are required as space is limited and can host up to 6 participants. Transportation cost to the Wilmington Island location is $35 for Uber one way and $140 for private car one way.

Visit the Savannah Bee Company’s downtown location, walking distance from Perry Lane Hotel, for an exciting mead tasting. Mead, or honey wine, is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known to man. It is made from honey and water via fermentation with yeast. It may be still, carbonated, or sparkling; it may be dry, semi-sweet, or sweet. Unlike beers and cider, meads (being wines) are drunk in small quantities.
For individuals, mead tastings are available from the mead bar seven days a week from 10am to 6pm. Cost is $12 per person for a choice of core tastings or seasonal tastings. Or build you own and pick six options for $15. No reservation is required. Mead tastings take place in the rear of the store, so shopping for gifts and takeaways is close at hand!
